Civil Engineering

Civil Engineer’s are involved in providing the physical infrastructure that supports civilization, including shelter, transportation, water supply and waste disposal and I or recycling. Constructed facilities, their planning, analysis, design, construction, maintenance and operation, are the forte of civil engineers use conversational and advanced tools, engineered and natural materials and human creativity to design, construct and maintain the physical infrastructure, which supports the quality of life of the Earth’s population. Administrative or supervisory jobs are held by many civil engineers while others work in devising, composing, constructing, researching and teaching jobs. Students in civil engineering study the two year common core curriculum in engineering, followed by core civil engineering courses in structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering and environment engineering. These course are supplemented by elective constructions in any one of the sub-areas listed above, as well as in the area of construction engineering in cooperation with the School of Architecture.

CAREER PROGRESSION

The period through 20 12 is projected to hold growth and potential for civil engineers due to the growth of population and the need for better infrastructural as well as security services, civil engineers will be required to build and design larger and safer buildings, complees as well as more durable water supply, sewage and pollution control mechanisms. Repairing existing roads, dams and other public conveniences will also be a major work allotment also more jobs will be created due to retirement and transfers of existing civil engineering professionals.

EMPLOYMENT

Employment will differ according to geographic area because construction is undertaken where site and land can be developed and employment opportunities will be affected due to economic booms considering the flow and use of funds in the construction business.
